When you work in Canada, workplace expectations may be different from those in your previous jobs. For example, employers want skilled trades workers who are able to work in teams, understand and give instructions, show initiative and leadership, solve problems, and work safely.
Even before you arrive in Canada, the FAST Program will provide you with online information and training on workplace practices expected by Canadian employers.
You will start by reviewing a list of the competencies and outcomes you need to work effectively for your new employer in your field. Competencies are the knowledge, skills, and abilities you are expected to demonstrate in the Canadian workplace, and outcomes are statements of what you are expected to know, understand, or be able to demonstrate after completing the online training.
You will then receive online training to gain any knowledge or upgrade any skills you may be missing and to review areas you may be familiar with. Successfully completing the competencies and outcomes will better prepare you to work in the skilled trades sector in Canada.
As you complete the competencies and outcomes in the FAST Program training, they will be tracked to show your progress. You can also get a report of the online training you complete in the FAST Program to show potential employers.
